Interlacing
Interlacing artefacts are only truly present on DVD
when the DVD has been created from an interlaced source instead of from
a progressive source. Animation is often the culprit here, as this is often
taken from a cheap, interlaced source rather than from a higher quality
and more expensive progressive source.
Interlacing artefacts are relatively easy to see
- simply single step through a transfer and every second image will be
a mixture of two separate fields.
Interlacing artefacts can be removed by a line scaler
or line doubler, but it is preferable that the source material does not
contain them at all.

Note the mixture of the previous image and the next image in
this inherently interlaced image.
