Whilst it all seems pretty mild today, back in 1975 this was a boundary-pushing film that raised more than the odd hackle. It was indeed banned by the very puritanical BBFC in 1975 and only relatively recently has it been passed uncut for general release. The original French release of the film runs about 8 minutes longer than the edited version that forms the basis of this release. The cuts were removed by the director apparently for pacing purposes as they do not apparently contain any sexual material. Since they were excised by the director, they do not constitute censorship per se, but are mentioned for completeness sake. If you wish further details of the cuts, then I suggest you look here.
