In 1836, fewer than 200 Texans defended the century-old Alamo mission on the banks of this San Antonio River and after 12 tense days of anticipation and preparation, all the Texans were slaughtered in less than an hour. This program lays bare the internal political struggles of the Alamo defenders through their own personal diaries. It portrays how the heroic defeat of the Alamo set the ground work for the spirit that would fuel America’s growth into the 20th century. Using archival artwork of Davy Crockett and the footage shot at the Alamo, the frenzy and tensions of the defeat is meticulously recreated from detail, to battle negotiations and the decision to fight.
