In 1939, Win Berry (Beau Bridges) a student at Harvard, has a summer job at Argbuthnot-by- the –Sea, an exclusive resort hotel on the coast of Maine. There here meets a young lady and he falls in love. After acquiring a pet bear and returning home from WWII , the Berry family begins it’s life in Argbuthnot-by-the-Sea. An eccentric man, Freud (Wallace Shawn) returns to Argbuthnot-by-the- Sea and rebuilds the memories of the old hotel named Hotel New Hampshire. Events take an unfortunate turn for worse but the intertwined families survive together.
