A young, ambitious newspaperman with more money than sense (but only just) meets, falls in love with and marries a delightful young woman who has the judgement he lacks. Unable to have children of their own, they adopt a baby girl of six weeks. First, happiness, then tragedy, befall the couple and they need to call upon every vestige of their love to keep their relationship alive. Cary Grant and Irene Dunne play their parts with all the charm, wit and sensitivity of “the world’s greatest leading man” and his first lady.
