As the curtain came down on Rugby League's 70th season in Australia, Parramatta and St George created history by enacting the code's first ever drawn grand final at a packed SCG on September 17, 1977.The Dragons were chasing their first title since their famous reign of eleven straight ended in 1966, while the blue and golds were seeking the honour that had eluded them since they entered the competition in 1947. With that kind of desperation, it was no wonder that the two teams were locked at 9-9 after 100 minutes of combat that included a gripping period of extra time in which both sides came excruciatingly close to breaking the deadlock. It was a far different story seven days later though, when the Saints - known as 'Bath's Babes' - marched to their 14th premiership on the back of a crushing 22-0 triumph in the grand final replay.
