Mars: The Red Planet: Takes DVD viewers where they've never been before: on a personal, guided tour of one of the galaxy's long-standing, and greatest mysteries. This 90-minute program; which includes 80 minutes of 5.1 Channel Dolby Digital music performed by Ryan Shore; features an array of video, still images, interactive maps and historical spacecraft graphics. Advanced DVD features include multi-angle video, multi-track audio, 3D video and still images, informational subtitles, dual operational mode, WebDVD support, and a Windows 95/98/NT screen saver. Below are some short descriptions of the many features on the DVD. Planetary Views: The Planetary Views sequence includes six unique camera angles, each showing a full rotation of Mars with a field of view of about 30 degrees. Consumers can change angles on the fly, which is equivalent to moving the point of reference up or down 30 degrees. Four full Dolby Digital 5.1 channel surround sound audio tracks combine with the six angles to make an extremely entertaining and interesting presentation. Surface Views: The Surface Views section includes 2D and 3D video and still images of the surface of Mars (a pair of custom 3D glasses are included). Consumers can explore the surface of Mars around the Pathfinder landing site and get close up 3D looks at each rock visited by the Sojourner Rover. Mars Missions: The Mars Missions section provides in depth multimedia information on all the successful past, present and future (planned) missions to Mars. This section has video, audio, text and graphics including four different liftoff sequences, as well as detailed footage of the Mars Climate Orbiter and Mars Polar Lander missions. Interactive Maps: The Interactive Maps section includes over 900 chapters that are linked by over 8,000 menu buttons to form a fully interactive map of Mars. Users can zoom in, zoom out, and pan in eight directions. Official IAU nomenclature for over 2000 features on Mars can be displayed. Dual Operational Modes: An "Entertainment Mode" is provided for users who want to sit back, relax and watch 90+ minutes of beautiful video and audio about, you guessed it, Mars. An "Interactive Mode" is available for users who want to explore. The title is highly interactive with over 1,000 individual media elements that can be displayed. Gallery: The Gallery section includes 33 different works of art from three renowned space artists. A full Dolby Digital 5.1 channel surround sound performance of Gustav Holst's "The Planets" is included, performed by Ryan Shore. Ryan also composed three new songs for this title that complete Holst's tour of the solar system by adding the songs "Earth", "Pluto" and "Sun". Slide Shows: Four different slide shows are included providing an in depth look at the 200 largest features on Mars, including craters, valleys, volcanoes, mountain ranges, canyons, and rifts. Each slide show includes a full Dolby Digital 5.1 channel surround sound audio track and an informational subtitle track. Martian Coronae: Over 200 Easter Eggs are hidden on "Mars, The Red Planet". Check out our contest page to enter the current Easter Egg Hunt. We always have an Easter Egg hunt running, with lots of neat Mars related prizes.
