Sony Tropfest, the world's largest short film festival, was founded in 1993 by actor/director John Polson at the Tropicana Caffe in Sydney's Darlinghurst. In its 13th year, Sony Tropfest 2005 attracted over 130,000 audience members nationally and received 792 entries. Of these films, 16 were chosen for screening in competition. All Sony Tropfest film entrants must follow a few essential guidelines - the film must be a maximum of 7 minutes and must include the Tropfest Signature Item (TSI), which for 2005 was "UMBRELLA".
