A perfect showcase for the wit and whimsy of comic genius Groucho Marx (1890-1977), this three-disc set collects a priceless archive of 18 complete and uncut You Bet Your Life episodes filmed between 1950 and 1960. Beginning on radio in 1947, You Bet Your Life was ostensibly a quiz show, but it mostly served as a forum for Groucho to ridicule the contestants. It soon became a hugely successful TV series, running for 423 episodes and assuring there would be life for Groucho after the Marx Brothers. Groucho's one-liners and snappy comebacks hilariously demonstrate Groucho's mastery of humour honed over decades of live performances. These classic 18 episodes, unseen since the original broadcasts, are a definitive part of 50s popular TV, and feature guest stars Phyllis Diller, Candice Bergen, Joe Louis, Johnny Weissmuller, Frankie Avalon, Groucho's daughter Melinda Marx and Harpo Marx. Each disc in this 3 DVD collectors edition contains six classic episodes aired between 1957 to 1960, along with a bevy of special features including You Bet Your Life "Stag Reels" (racy moments edited out for broadcast), Marx Brothers and Original Commercials, Phyllis Diller Commentary, Outtakes and 8 Page Booklet.
