During the 25 years that Jan Fennell has been working with dogs, she's been increasingly aware of the ways in which communication between man's best friend and ourselves has broken down. Inspired by Monty Roberts, The "Horse Wisperer", Fennell has embraced similar methods and adapted them to the natural behaviour of canines. Rather than trying to fit human psychology to dogs, Jan teaches us to adapt our behaviour to match our pets. By watching how wild dogs communicate under the strict guidance of a leader, Jan concludes that many domestic dogs are confused, believing themselves to be the pack leaders, and humans their subordinates. Fennell retrains dogs to accept a human as their alphA leader. This six-part series deals with and finds real solutions to common problems such as aggressiveness, hyperactivity, destructiveness, fear and obsessive compulsive disorders.
