Nothing is quite as it seems behind the closed doors of Midsomer County's chocolate-box cottages and picture perfect English countryside, as Inspector Barnaby soon discovers. Murder and mayhem abound in this highly acclaimed British whodunnit based on the character created by Caroline Graham. Case 1 Dead Man’s Eleven The village of Fletcher’s Cross is astounded when a rich businessman’s wife is found bludgeoned to death by a cricket bat. Whilst the victim had no apparent enemies, her husband, Robert Cavendish, was hated by all and sundry - Robert’s arch-enemy Frasier, who worked for Cavendish until a quarry explosion killed his partner; Cavendish’s son, Stephen, who despised his father; Zelda, the sprightly, sly spinster who abhorred Cavendish because of his plan to fence off footpaths crossing his land:- All had reasons for wishing harm on Robert, but why would anyone kill his wife? Guest stars Robert Hardy. Written by Anthony Horowitz. Directed by Jeremy Silberston. Case 2 Death Of A Stranger When a local tramp is murdered in the woods on the day of the Upper Marshwood Fox Hunt, local poacher Billy Gurdle is arrested and jailed. Barnaby is on holiday when he hears about the death and is surprised to learn that Chief Inspector Pringle has arrested this petty criminal for the murder. When Billy's father is later discovered brutally killed it seems Barnaby may have been right all along. As the hunt season launches into full swing, Barnaby and Troy delve into the villagers' dubious pasts in a race to solve the murders before someone else gets savagely killed. Guest stars James Bolam. Written by Douglas Livingstone. Directed by Peter Cregeen.
