The men's surgical ward of the Haven Hospital is staffed by efficient and hardworking nurses. The patients are full of practical jokes and visiting hours provide the only time for a semblance of law and order. But one evening a visitor brings some champagne into the ward, culminating in a riotous operation.

Hearing that one of the favourite teachers is planning to become headmaster of a new school, the pupils plan to sabotage the final inspection in a determined effort to keep him. Prank follows hilarious prank, dashing the teacher's hopes of an appointment. But all is not lost, and more riotous events occur before the teacher discovers the truth.
