Dylan Hunt (Kevin Sorbo) is captain of the starship Andromeda Ascendant, part of the military force of the Systems Commonwealth Monarchy, which spans several galaxies. Hunt and his ship are subsequently frozen inside a Black Hole and lay dormant for several centuries. Revived by a passing salvage ship, Hunt is horrified to find that the Commonwealth has collapsed and all but a distant memory. He is also troubled that all the known galaxies have descended into turmoil and barbarism. Hunt, along with his “motley” crew decide to embark on a journey around the cosmos in an to attempt to restore order.
