Based on the true story of an Austrian family, The Seventh Continent documents three years in the life of Georg, his wife Anna and their daughter Eva. It's the story of a bourgeois family unit; of professional success; of the price to pay for conformism and the story of a psychological blindness that leads to their self-destruction.
Austrian director Michael Haneke's first feature introduces us to the themes - middle class malaise, spectatorship and violence and the characters - usually a close-knit family group consisting of father Georg, mother Anna and their child/ren-that have continued to populate his work up to and including his world-wide success, Hidden.
