"Killing Zoe", by first time director Roger Avary, involved Quentin Tarantino in the role of executive producer and has been described by Variety as a "Vivid thriller of a different more considered tone than anything yet seen from his mentor". The film follows the recently released American convict Zed (Eric Stoltz), who arrives in Paris to do a "job" for a friend. His specialty is cracking safes and Eric (Jean-Hughes Anglade) the mastermind, has selected a particularly difficult one for him at a large bank. But before getting to mapping out the details, Zed takes some long overdue R & R with a Parisian professional named Zoe (Julie Delpy). Following a night of debauchery and abandon the bank job is a botch up from the word go. Most of the seven member team are at less than peak performances following their long night, and the idea of a clean operation is quickly erased when someone is killed. An operation clearly doomed to failure, the truly chilling aspect of "Killing Zoe" is the correlation Avary makes between the gangs nihilistic attitude and its penchant for violence'.
