It is an epic tale of passion that begins when the 20 year-old Queen of the Nile seeks out the most powerful man in the world, Julius Caesar. When she gives birth to Caesar's only child she is certain he will protect his son as heir to the Egyptian throne. Cleopatra is devastated by the assassination of Caesar but focuses on protecting her son, her throne and her Country. Realising that Marc Antony is the only Roman she can trust, Cleopatra seduces him and he becomes infatuated, later marrying her in an Egyptian ceremony, where Antony denounces his Roman wife and names Cleopatra's son as true heir to the Egyptian throne.
The Roman army marches into Egypt. In the midst of battle Antony is mortally wounded and Cleopatra takes her dying lover into her tomb and prepares herself for death. Draped in a gold funeral gown and wearing her ceremonial cobra headdress, Cleopatra welcomes a gentle poisonous bite from the sacred cobra. When the Romans burst through the doors of the mausoleum they find the Queen of Egypt peacefully lying in state, with the body of Antony beside her.
Even in death, Cleopatra commands respect and is a vision of godly beauty.
