A macho truck driver, Jack Burton (Kurt Russell), agrees to go to the San Francisco airport and pick up his friend Wong's (Dennis Dun) fiancée (Suzee Pai), who's freshly arrived from China. Jack unexpectedly becomes involved in a supernatural battle between good and evil and must save Wong's fiancée from an immortal sorcerer named Lo Pan and his henchmen, and win back his stolen truck.
