A Texas oil billionaire (Burt Lancaster), the Academy Award winning star of From Here to Eternity attempts to buy out a remote Scottish fihing village for an oil refinery, and sends his ace dealmaker Mac (Peter Riegert, The Mask) to secure his property rights. However local eccentric Ben Knox (Fulton Mackay, Britannia Hospital) refuses to sell his beach and Mac is forced to negotiate on Ben's terms.
