An Angel Lives Among Us Camino is a beautiful and bubbly thirteen-year-old whose life is controlled by her mother's devotion to the Opus Dei sect. Camino wants only to join the local theatre group with her best friend's cute cousin and star as Cinderella in the end-of-year production. But when Camino experiences searing pains in her back and is diagnosed with a rare cancer of the spine, her life changes in terrible and unexpected ways... Her mother becomes obsessed with the possibility of Camino being canonised and urges her to silently offer her pain to God. Her sister, virtually imprisoned in an Opus Dei center, appears disinterested in Camino's suffering, and their father, wracked with sorrow over the impending loss of his youngest daughter, is powerless to stop his devout wife. As Camino's illness worsens, she finds solace in her active imagination, into which she retreats to live out her innocent fantasies of romance, stardom and happiness.
