The film 'they' didn't want made The first of the hugely successful comedies from Britain's Boulting Brothers, Private's Progress is a hilarious wartime satire starring Richard Attenborough and Ian Carmichael alongside a host of first-rate British comics. During World War II, university student Stanley Windrush (Carmichael) is forced to interrupt his studies when he is called up to serve. Accepted into Officer's training due to his education, Windrush soon proves himself utterly incompetent, and is relegated to the humble rank of Private. But in the hands of the wily Private Cox (Attenborough), Windrush soon finds himself being given an entirely different sort of education...
