Repulsion is Roman Polanski's first English language film and - together with Psycho - is considered one of the best horror films of the 1960s. This chilling tale of psychosis stars screen goddess Catherine Deneuve as Carol, a sexually repressed beauty who is both attracted to and repelled by men.
When one day Carol's sister Helen (Yvonne Furneaux) and her boyfriend Michael (Ian Hendry) go off on vacation together, Carol is left alone in their empty apartment. In this claustrophobic environment, she begins to lose her grip on reality and her insanity grows to a violent pitch.
Thanks to its superb cinematography and unforgettable attention to disturbing detail, Repulsion remains one of cinema's most shocking psychological thrillers and a fitting prelude to later Polanski films such as Rosemary's Baby.
