Would you commit murder for science? Cash? Or the maniacal thrill of the kill? Dr. Robert Knox needs corpses to advance the science of surgery, but the law forbids such moral outrage. To Knox “death is an incident producing clay” but to his suppliers, Burke and Hare, murder is a living. Donald Pleasence is lively and loathsome as Hare, while Peter Cushing hits his icy best as the morally blind Knox. Billie Whitelaw (The Omen, The Krays) and George Rose also shine in this well crafted historical horror. “Peter Cushing, Billie Whitelaw, Donald Pleasence and George Rose were the stars in my picture and I don’t think I’ve ever worked with a finer cast.” ~ director and co-write John Gilling (Hammer’s The Reptile & Plague of the Zombies).
