"A delightful movie... absurd, witty and completely charming." -Judith Crist, WOR-TV.
When you have a fiancee, a lover and you have to lead 25 women of the night down the path of righteousness, you must pray for more than guidance - you must pray for strength. After ten years as a missionary in Africa the Reverend Charles Fortescue (Michael Palin) returns to Edwardian England where the sport-obsessed bishop (Denholm Elliott) tells him that his next assignment is to minister to prostitutes in the East End of London. Charles dreads the prospect and hopes that his naive fiancee Deborah (Phoebe Nicholls) will object, but she's so innocent of worldly ways that she thinks fallen women are "women that have hurt their knees".
