Sticking as closely to the true history as possible, a teenage Ned (Abe Forsythe) leaves the home of his obsessed rubber farming dad, Mr Kelly (Jeremy Sims), on a quest to become a stage magician. Upon reaching the town of Glenrowan he finds himself part of the "Hughes Gang", a psychologically motley crew consisting of the insecure syphilitic Dan Hughes (Nick Flint), Joe Byrne (Josef Ber), an endearing drag queen saving up for a sex change operation, and the violently psychotic Steve Hart (Damon Herriman).
Ned's new found fame as an outlaw brings the unwanted attention of Governor Sinclair (Felix Williamson), an evil man with a maniacal bloodlust, a questionable fetish for hamsters, and a dark secret...
