"He was a man who helped defeat the scourge of tyranny and oppression...and who tried to sow the seeds of peace for future generations" These were the words spoken by Prince Charles at the memorial service of his uncle, Lord Louis Mountbatten, the last Viceroy of India.
At midnight on 14th August 1947 an event took place that would change the world. The moment marked the dawn of Independence for India, the birth of Pakistan and the end of the British Raj - the last days of the greatest empire in history.
In less than a year Mountbatten achieved the impossible. The apparently irreconcilable differences of the Indian leaders had been resolved and a plan for Partition agreed. Such was his success that he was asked to stay on as Governor General of the new India.
See all the conflicts, the intrigues, the pomp, the ceremony. Mountbatten, The Last Viceroy is testament to one of history's truly great visionaries.
