Parenthood-Season 3 (2011)

Here is Season Three of what is the best family drama series I have ever seen. The cast is perfection, the production standards are the highest and each episode contains truths that really strike home. It will make you laugh and cry, and will leave you better for the experience. I love this show. The extras are a few deleted scenes, and that's a pity.

Lovely Molly (Blu-ray) (2011)

Lovely Molly is a psychological horror movie that rises above it's b-grade status. Strong performances and edgy direction makes it a must see for those who appreciate their scare-time.

W.E. (2011)

Madonna and movies are often oil and water. Her second directorial effort has copped scathing reviews. Truth is, it isn't all bad, just a little underwhelming. This tale of two lives seperated by time - a modern Abbie Cornish and Wallis Simpson, whose love for King Edward led to his abdication, never takes off due to a weak script and an overly artsy filming style. The DVD looks and sounds fine. No extras.

Awakening, The (Blu-ray) (2011)
Ray N
After the terrible slaughter of the WWI many people in England took comfort by believing in the supernatural. Set in 1921, The Awakening is an atmospheric, tense supernatural thriller that delivers a foreboding atmosphere, tense situations and some well-orchestrated shocks. It features a great sense of period, a dark grey colour palate, a good score and a wonderful central performance by Rebecca Hill.

Excellent release of the best recent series of this long running show. Lots of extras but strangely in NTSC and not available on Blu-ray like previous series.

5 Days of War (Blu-ray) (2011)
Ray N
From director Renny Harlin and staring Rupert Friend and Richard Coyle, 5 Days of War is set during the Russian invasion of Georgia in 2008. The film looks good, has great action sequences using real jets, helicopters and tanks but the jumbled story lines in the end do not do the subject matter full justice.
