Plot Synopsis

Back in 2011, Madman released an initial series of DVD releases of the Warehouse Comedy Festival. At the time I reviewed the shows by  Denise Scott  Charlie Pickering . Now Madman have released a second set of these shows, recorded in 2012 in the same venue. These include shows by Judith Lucy, Frank Woodley (reviewed here), Peter Heliar, Lawrence Mooney & Hannah Gadsby amongst others. It is great to see local comedy getting airtime on ABC2 but also getting released onto DVD.

This disc features a 60 minute set by Frank Woodley (formerly half of Lano & Woodley), doing his latest show, Bemusement Park. Woodley's comedy is an interesting mixture of silly, wacky, off the wall, physical and story telling humour. There are certainly some funny stories and ideas in the show but it is also somewhat variable in quality. As he explains during the show, however, all comedy is subjective. He covers diverse topics like pregnancy, evolution, DIY and poo. A couple of silly songs are also included.

Well worth a look for fans of Australian comedy, especially if you enjoy Woodley's style.

Audio

The audio quality is very good.

This disc contains two English soundtracks in Dolby Digital 2.0 encoded at 224Kb/s. One is the original audio and one has the swearing deleted so the show can be shared with more sensitive audiences.

Dialogue was clear and easy to hear and understand, obviously the most important sound attribute for stand-up.

The surround speakers and subwoofer were not used.

Extras

Menu

    The menu included music.

Highlights from Bewilderbeest (40:51)

This is an excellent extra which is a slightly shortened version of his previous stand up set, Bewilderbeest from 2010. More funny stuff from Woodley in a similar vein.

Outtakes

Instructions are included inside the case for accessing outtakes on Frank Woodley's website. There are two videos available, about 13 minutes of outtakes from Bemusement Park and 2 minutes from Bewilderbeest.

R4 vs R1

NOTE: To view non-R4 releases, your equipment needs to be multi-zone compatible and usually also NTSC compatible.

This disc is only available in Region 4 but is coded for all regions.

Summary

A wacky stand-up show from Frank Woodley.

The video quality is very good.

The audio quality is very good.

    One good quality extra.
