I enjoy my English Soccer and so I was interested to take a look at this new DVD, entitled Brilliant Football Action - Top Ten.
The DVD includes top ten countdowns from recent (but not the last few years) English Soccer. It seems to focus mostly on the late 1980s & 1990s. Most of the footage included comes from England international games or FA Cup fixtures, with the occasional piece from smaller leagues or the Scottish first division. I don't think it included any actual Premier League action. If you already have the various Premier League highlights discs, this one has very little crossover with those. It includes 9 top ten countdowns in various categories, which are:
This disc is quite entertaining but rushes by at a great pace, only running for 50 minutes. There is some good footage included, most of which I had not seen before. A worthy purchase for English Soccer fans and most of them would enjoy receiving it as a Christmas gift.
The video quality is variable dependent upon the source footage.
The feature is presented in a 1.29:1 aspect ratio non 16x9 enhanced which is the most likely original aspect ratio.
The picture was reasonably clear and sharp throughout although some footage was quite grainy and/or soft. There was no evidence of low level noise.
The colour was generally good, however some footage included some bleeding, especially the older stuff. There was also some minor chroma noise.
There was some aliasing and tape tracking here and there.
There are no subtitles.

The audio quality is fine.
This DVD contains one audio option, an English Dolby Digital 2.0 stereo soundtrack encoded at 192 Kb/s.
Commentary and voiceovers were clear and easy to understand. There was some music used which was OK but slightly annoying in parts.
The surround speakers and subwoofer were not used.
