Plot Synopsis

Title of Show : Peppa Pig

Title of Disc : Flying A Kite and other Stories

    Year of Production : 2004

    Country of origin : UK

    What's included? : 10 episodes.

Episode Length : 5 minutes each (annoyingly the disc does not have time coding)

Details of episodes : The title are fairly self-explanatory so I won't bother with a plot synopsis for each one.

      1. Flying A Kite
      2. My Cousin Chloe
      3. Daddy Loses His Glasses
      4. Hiccups
      5. Picnic
      6. Mummy Pig's Birthday
      7. Dressing Up
      8. The School Fete
      9. Musical Instruments
      10. Babysitting

Style of Production : 2 dimensional animation

Premise of show : Peppa is a young female pig who lives with Mummy & Daddy Pig and her younger brother George. They are a fun loving family who spend a lot of time oinking, rolling around on the ground laughing and jumping in muddy puddles. Other than the oinking they pretty much act like human beings. They live in a house and drive around in a car, attend school and go on picnics. This show won a 2005 BAFTA award for best Pre-school animation show.

    Age Group : 2-6

Related to any other children's shows? : Not really

Adult's view : Very amusing show, even for adults. The way the parents and kids interact is funny and will remind you of your own children and how they are with you. Cute animation and great oinking. One of the most watchable pre-schooler shows.

Child's view : My kids love Peppa Pig and laugh and smile throughout.

Other Releases of this show available? : This is the second Region 4 release of Peppa Pig. The other one is called Muddy Puddles.

    Overall : Heartily recommended.

Video

The video quality is very good.

The feature is presented in a 1.78:1 aspect ratio 16x9 enhanced which is probably the original aspect ratio. The case lists it as 4:3.

The picture was very clear and sharp throughout, with no evidence of low level noise.

The colour was wonderful, rich and solid throughout.

The only noticeable artefact was some very mild aliasing.

    There are no subtitles.

Audio

    The audio quality is good.

This DVD contains an English Dolby Digital 2.0 stereo soundtrack encoded at 192 Kb/s.

Dialogue was clear and easy to understand and there was no problem with audio sync.

The music and theme song by Julian Nott are fun and very suitable to the show.

The surround speakers and subwoofer were not used.

Extras

Menu

The menu included an intro, music, action and the ability to select episodes. It includes a nice cursor involving Peppa jumping in muddy puddles.

Games

    Two interactive games are included:

R4 vs R1

NOTE: To view non-R4 releases, your equipment needs to be multi-zone compatible and usually also NTSC compatible.

This disc has been released in the same format in Region 2 and is not available in Region 1.

Summary

A really fun animated series for pre-schoolers.

The video quality is very good.

    The audio quality is good.

The set has a couple of pretty lame games as extras.
