Plot Synopsis

Title of Show : Bob The Builder : Project: Build It

Title of Disc : Chip Off The Old Block

    Year of Production : 2005

    Country of origin : UK

What's included? : 5 normal length episodes and 4 short episodes. These episodes follow straight on from those included on Project: Build It - Bob's Big Plan.

Episode Length : 10 minutes each for the longer ones, 2 minutes each for the short ones.

    Details of episodes :

      1. Scoop's Recruit - The team need someone to take over Bob's builder's yard back in Bobsville. Scoop tries to help find a replacement. Bob's Dad ends up taking the job.
      2. Scoop & The Worms (Short)- Scoop has trouble with some worms.

      4. Rowdy Roley (Short)- Roley is being too loud and scaring the wildlife.
      5. Wendy's Welcome - Wendy actually moves to Sunflower Valley and the team finish her caravan. Bob's Dad goes missing.

      9. Two Scoops - Scoop is getting very busy rushing between Sunflower Valley and Bobsville. The team are building a workshop. This episode introduces Benny.

Style of Production : Puppet animation

Premise of show : Bob The Builder has been going for quite a few seasons and the producers decided to spruce it up and change the concept by relocating the main characters to a new location, Sunflower Valley. Bob has won a competition to design and build a new town in Sunflower Valley by proposing a low impact approach known as Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Some new characters are introduced such as Scrambler (a quad bike) and Skip (a truck).

    Age Group : 3-10

Related to any other children's shows? : The original Bob The Builder.

Adult's view : I think this is an excellent move to update Bob The Builder and revive interest in the show. The new location makes for some interesting and different story lines rather than sticking to the locations which have been done to death in the old series. They don't go too overboard with the lefty-pinko-tree-hugging-hippy message which is good but it's a worthwhile message so it's certainly worth having in the show. This disc contains 9 episodes of varying lengths and it strikes me as quite good value.

Child's view : Certainly there was no issue with my test audience not liking the move to the new location as the characters are maintained. Scrambler has quickly become a favourite of my three year old.

Other Releases of this show available? : There is the second release of the new series and there are lots of the original Bob The Builder available.

    Overall : Highly recommended.

Video

The video quality is very good.

The feature is presented in a 1.78:1 aspect ratio 16x9 enhanced which is probably the original aspect ratio.

The picture was very clear and sharp throughout, with no evidence of low level noise.

The colour was wonderful, rich and solid throughout.

The only noticeable artefact was some mild aliasing here and there.

There are subtitles in English for the hearing impaired which were somewhat summarised from the spoken word.

R4 vs R1

NOTE: To view non-R4 releases, your equipment needs to be multi-zone compatible and usually also NTSC compatible.

The Region 2 release is the same and it has not been released in Region 1. The local product is the go.

Summary

A second disc of the new Bob The Builder spin-off, Project: Build It.

The video quality is very good.

The audio quality is very good.

The disc has two quite ordinary extras.
