Plot Synopsis

Engelbert Humperdinck is an internationally renowned pop star whose much celebrated career has spanned over 50 years in which he has sold over 150 million records. Engelbert Live was recorded at the Forum, Los Angeles in 1995. With a full orchestra led by orchestral arranger/director Bebu Silvetti the show will certainly please fans as the song list includes the showman's most poplar songs such as "Release Me" and ""Quando Quando Quando" and covers of classic hits like "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You" and "Unchained Melody." With the show length at 107:25, fans will certainly be pleased as the show demonstrates exactly what makes Humperdinck an international star; charm, talent and affection for his audience.

Transfer Quality

Video

The show is presented in an aspect ratio of 1.29:1. In comparison to some of the most successfully produced music DVDs this title does not fare well. The minimal lighting of the venue does not present the best filming conditions and the black levels suffer as a consequence. There is also colour bleeding present. The source material is over a decade old and unfortunately the quality is quite average with minor grain and colours which are dull which contribute to the overall soft image.

Audio

The 2.0 and 5.1 Dolby Digital audio options are satisfactory but the DTS soundtrack is a much welcomed addition. Humperdinck's music is by no means suited to that of a rock arena and the soundtrack encompasses the viewer in a serene manner as the bass remains minimal rather than being overbearing. There are no flaws exhibited with this soundtrack, rather it has been well produced in respects to the source material and ultimately is mindful of the viewer watching the DVD at home.
