Title of Show : Bob The Builder
Title of Disc : Built to be Wild
Year of Production : 2006
Country of origin : UK
What's included? : 1 extended episode
Episode Length : 56 minutes.
Details of episode : This disc contains a brand new one hour special of Bob The Builder, with quite a different approach to the normal episodes. Bob, Wendy, Spud and the machines decide to go and visit the Wild West staying at a dude ranch. There they meet Rio Rogers (voiced/sung by Suzi Quatro) and her pick-up truck Jackaroo (voiced/sung by Donnie Osmond) and have lots of exciting wild west adventures, do some building work and perform lots of song & dance numbers. Muck is very keen to have an adventure, Spud gets himself into trouble and everyone has a great time. The Shadows also appear in animated form.
Style of Production : Puppet animation
Premise of show : Bob The Builder and his trusty crew do all sorts of building work around Bobsville. The crew include Wendy, a woman, Spud, a scarecrow, Much, a bulldozer, Roley, a steamroller, Lofty, a crane, Dizzy, a cement mixer & Scoop, a front-end loader.
Age Group : 3-10
Related to any other children's shows? : Bob The Builder: Project Build-It.
Adult's view : Another good attempt like Project Build-It to break Bob The Builder away from Bobsville and do something different with it. Your level of enjoyment will be directly related to your ability to cope with Country & Western Music. Donnie Osmond is much less annoying than he is in person.
Child's view : They loved it, enjoying the songs and adventures.
Other Releases of this show available? : There are heaps of Bob The Builder products available.
Overall : Recommended.
The video quality is very good.
The feature is presented in a 1.78:1 aspect ratio 16x9 enhanced which is probably the original aspect ratio.
The picture was very clear and sharp throughout, with no evidence of low level noise.
The colour was wonderful, rich and solid throughout.
There were no noticeable artefacts.
There are subtitles in English for the hearing impaired which are clear and easy to read.
The layer break occurs at 22:29 but is not noticeable.

The audio quality is very good, probably the best I have heard for a non-feature film children's DVD.
This DVD contains an English Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack encoded at 448 Kb/s. Strangely, the case indicates it is only stereo.
Dialogue was clear and easy to understand and there was no problem with audio sync.
The song and dance numbers are very catchy and are mostly country & western in style including the dreaded line dancing.
The surround speakers was surprisingly well used provided significant atmosphere and immersion and quite a few surround effects such as galloping horses.
The subwoofer was also well used adding bass to things falling over and the music.

A large selection of extras are included.
The menu included an intro, motion, music and was very well designed.
Help Spud escape from jail by answering trivia questions about the show.
This section includes 3 songs, each of which is available either in a sing-along version or a karaoke version (i.e. without the cast singing). The songs are Cowboy Holiday, Buffalo Bob & Cowboy Builders.
Five extras scenes including Name that Cow Truck, Clever Cactus, Panning for Gold, No Cake for Spud & Cowboy Humour. Good stuff.
Collection of stills from the show with music.
Introductions for the new characters featured.
DVD-Rom website link.
There is an Easter egg on the extras menu(SPOILER ALERT: highlight with mouse to read) (highlight the signpost in the bottom corner) which is a Silent Movie done in sepia featuring the story of Stinky Spud.
NOTE: To view non-R4 releases, your equipment needs to be multi-zone compatible and usually also NTSC compatible.
This is available in Region 1 and Region 2 however I cannot find any details about extras so I would go for the local product.
The video quality is very good.
