Plot Synopsis

Title of Show : Dora The Explorer

Title of Disc : Egg Hunt

    Year of Production : 2003

Country of origin : United States

    What's included? :  4 episodes.

Episode Length : About 23 minutes each.

    Details of episodes :

This DVD contains 4 Dora episodes, however two are referred to on the menus as Bonus episodes. I will treat them all as part of the main feature.

      1. Egg Hunt - Dora hunts for Easter Eggs
      2. El Dia De Las Madras - Mother's Day episode
      3. Dora, La Musica - Dora and Boots must find instruments to save the town from Senor Shush
      4. Pablo's Flute - Dora must find a famous flute

Style of Production : 2D animation

Premise of show : Dora The Explorer is a very popular show with the pre-school set especially young girls. It involves the adventures of a young latino girl, Dora who sets off on regular explorations with her friend Boots the Monkey. She carries a talking backpack and map which help her along the way. In each episode she must find her way to a destination using the map and help from the audience. She also must watch out for Swiper the Fox who wants to swipe the things she finds. This is a very interactive show for the kids.

    Age Group : 2-5

Related to any other children's shows? : Not really

Adult's view : Despite its very American approach (especially the promotion of learning Spanish which obviously makes sense in the US but not so much here) the thing about this show which parents will be pleased about is the interactivity. My young boys (2 & 4) have never been more interactive with a show than this one. They are glued to it and yell at the screen about where Swiper is or singing along with the inane songs.

Child's view : This is a very addictive show for the pre-school age group. They love it.

Other Releases of this show available? : There are other volumes of this show now available locally.

Overall : Annoyingly American but certainly better than some US shows.

Video

The video quality is very good.

The feature is presented in a 1.33:1 aspect ratio non 16x9 enhanced which is probably the original aspect ratio.

The picture was quite clear and sharp throughout sporting a quite healthy bitrate, with no evidence of low level noise.

The colour was quite good although I thought the picture was a little washed out, perhaps the brightness was turned up too much.

    No noticeable artefacts.

There is a forced subtitle stream but it only contains episode titles, no actual subtitles.

R4 vs R1

NOTE: To view non-R4 releases, your equipment needs to be multi-zone compatible and usually also NTSC compatible.

This disc is available in Region 1 where it includes the same episodes but also a game and 2 shorts. Region 1 is the pick.

Summary

4 episodes of the latest obsession amongst pre-schoolers.
