Plot Synopsis

    Title of Show : Jakers!

Title of Disc : The Case of Big Sty

    Year of Production : 2003

Country of origin : United States

    What's included? :  4 episodes.

Episode Length : About 23 minutes each.

    Details of episodes :

There are four episodes included here

      1. Pie Filling
      2. Ferny is a Bug
      3. The Case of Big Sty
      4. All Night Long

Style of Production : Computer Animation

Premise of show : Jakers! The Adventures of Piggley Winks is an animated children's television series made for the Public Broadcasting (PBS) network in the United States. So far, two series of this show have aired in the US, the first one starting in 2003, totally about 26 episodes. The series is aimed at the 3 to 8 age group, I would guess and the main characters are 8 year old animals who live on Raloo Farm in Ireland. The stories are told in flashback, by Piggley Winks who is now a grandfather, telling them to his grandsons, Sean & Seamus. Each episode quickly gets into a flashback story which always feature Piggley Winks, an 8 year old pig and his best friends, Ferny (short for Fernando) the Bull and Dannan the Duck. Other recurring characters are Molly, Piggley's little sister and Wiley the Sheep, a Ram who is trying to educate the rest of the flock. Wiley is voiced by Mel Brooks and is quite funny...

    Age Group : 2-5

Related to any other childrens shows? : No

Adult's view : One of the better US children's shows which is quite watchable even for adults. There are 'messages' but they are done subtly rather than with a brick attached. The stories are fun and the characters show the positives and negatives of their personalities.

Child's view : A definite hit with my two young boys (4 and 2) especially the younger one. They both love Wiley the Sheep.

Other Releases of this show available? : There are a number of other volumes of this show available.

Overall : This is a quality show and the disc includes over 90 minutes which is better than quite a few children's discs.

Video

    The video quality is excellent.

The feature is presented in a 1.78:1 aspect ratio 16x9 enhanced which would be the original aspect ratio.

The picture was clear and sharp throughout, with no evidence of low level noise, as you would expect from modern computer animation.

The colour was excellent throughout and extremely well saturated.

The only artefact I noticed was some minor aliasing.

There are no subtitles or layer change.
