Style of Production : Animation

Premise of show : Ben10 is a Cartoon Network production which is designed for primary school aged children. The basic story is that a young boy called Ben Tennyson found an alien watch called the Omnitrix which allows him to transform into 10 different aliens. He uses this power to fight aliens and other threats while travelling around with his Grandfather Max (an ex-alien hunter himself) and his cousin Gwen in a campervan. In each episode Ben fights a new enemy using one or more of the aliens at his command. Unfortunately, he does not seem to have full control over the watch at sometimes he gets something different to what he was expecting. Also, he can only transform into an alien for a limited amount of time before he goes back to being a boy. Both of these problems tend to land him in hot water, but he can always save the day in the end. The ten aliens are each very different with different strengths and weaknesses. During this season he finds some new aliens including the charming Upchuck.

Age Group : 5-12

Related to any other children's shows? : Seems to be very similar in concept to an older show called Dial H for Hero.

Adult's view : A decent show for young boys with a lot of excitement, some suspense, some mild scares and interesting and exciting characters.

Child's view : All the rage at my 5 year old son's school. He came home soon after starting this year talking endlessly about Ben10 without ever having actually seen it. He loves the different aliens and wants to know all about each one. In this season he is especially fond of the episode when Ben & Gwen get sucked into a video game, Game Over.

Other Releases of this show available? : Four seasons have been released (or are about to be released) along with a feature length movie Ben10 : Secret of the Omnitrix.

Overall : Good value collection with nearly 300 minutes of episodes plus extras.

Video

The video quality is good.

The feature is presented in a 1.33:1 aspect ratio non 16x9 enhanced which is probably the original aspect ratio.

The picture was quite clear and sharp throughout without being crisp and with no evidence of low level noise.

The colour was quite good but not overly vibrant.

Artefacts included some minor aliasing and jagged edges along with some interlacing artefacts during fast movement.

There are subtitles in English. They are yellow and easy to read.
