I enjoy stand-up comedy and have reviewed a number of stand up DVDs. Accordingly, I decided to take a look at this release from Beyond Home Entertainment in their Punchline range of stand-up and other comedy discs. This disc is one of five new comedy releases from the range for July 2010. This disc features Jeff Garlin, probably best known for his role in Curb Your Enthusiasm but he has also appeared in a number of movies, done voices for animated films such as Wall-E and had recurring characters in other comedy series such as Mad About You.
The show included here was recorded live in Chicago in June 2008 at a small club. The show is fairly short at only 50 minutes and feels somewhat underprepared. Despite this, there are certainly some funny moments especially when he is talking about his relationship with his wife. There are also some funny one liners but it is certainly not amongst the funniest stand-up routines I have seen on DVD. The camerawork is a little odd, seeming to sort of drift away from him sometimes.
Fans of Jeff Garlin will enjoy this disc but others may only be interested in a weekly rental.
The video quality is very good. The feature is presented in a 1.78:1 aspect ratio which is, I would guess, the original aspect ratio, 16x9 enhanced.
The picture was quite clear and sharp without being spectacular. The colour was fine.
There were no other noticeable artefacts.
There are no subtitles.

The audio quality is good without being spectacular.
This DVD contains two audio options, an unnecessary English Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack encoded at 448 Kb/s and an English Dolby Digital 2.0 soundtrack encoded at 224 Kb/s.
The dialogue was easy to understand and clear throughout which is obviously critical.
The surround speakers and subwoofer were used for crowd noise.

Bob the director and Jeff shout at each other for 14 minutes about Jeff's career and his approach to comedy. Of interest to fans.
A couple of extra pieces of the stand-up routine which were deleted for good reason; they aren't funny.
NOTE: To view non-R4 releases, your equipment needs to be multi-zone compatible and usually also NTSC compatible.
The Region 1 release is exactly the same. Draw.
The video quality is very good. The audio quality is good.
Small selection of extras.
