Is there a hotter comedian in the world today then Amy Schumer? Of course, hotter could mean one of two things, or perhaps both. Hot as in popular, but also hot as in attractive. The latter meaning will be apparent to those who watch Inside Amy Schumer on Comedy Central. In the most recent season Schumer dedicated a whole episode to a re-creation of 12 Angry Men including Paul Giamatti and John Hawkes. The issue at stake was not her guilt for a unnamed crime but whether she was "hot enough" for television. The episode justifiably earned Emmy nominations.
Inside Amy Schumer has completed its third season with an increasing spectrum of viewers. More recently she has been enormously successful in her first starring film role in the movie Trainwreck. The future looks bright for Ms Schumer.
This video is a stand-up show from 2012, prior to her first season of Inside Amy Schumer. It contains all the elements that fans enjoy in her work - the raw sexual content and blithely ignorant characterisation. She draws from the well of great insult comics of the past and adds to it a frankness that is both extremely funny and sometimes disarming.
The show was shot at the Fillmore Theatre in San Francisco before a receptive audience. Fans of her work may feel that she is a better comedian now than at the time of filming - the set is a little loose - however it is definitely worth a watch.
Mostly Sex Stuff was shot on high definition digital video and comes to DVD in a 1.78:1 aspect ratio, consistent with the original TV presentation. It is 16x9 enhanced.
It is a clean (image not content!) and clear live show. Amy mentions at times that it is a TV special being filmed so the audience are aware of the camera set-ups.
It is fairly simply but effectively shot, putting Amy centre stage and simply following her around.
It looks pretty much as a stand-up gig should look. There are no glaring technical problems with the transfer.
There are subtitles in English for the Hearing Impaired.

Mostly Sex Stuff comes with a basic Dolby Digital 2.0 soundtrack running at 224 Kb/s.
This is perfectly adequate for the show which is purely derived from her onstage microphone with only a few seconds of stage.
There are no technical problems with the sound transfer.

The DVD contains three brief extras.
Two are her performances at roasts for Comedy Central. One is the roast for Charlie Sheen (5.00) and the other for Roseanne Barr (4.42). Both showcase her insult comic skills. The routines have become somewhat legendary sparking Twitter wars and some hate campaigns from other fans upset at her barbs. Each panel has its loco guest - Mike Tyson and Ellen Barkin.
Another short feature (2.11) has Amy with her sister who tours with her.
NOTE: To view non-R4 releases, your equipment needs to be multi-zone compatible and usually also NTSC compatible.
The Region 1 version is the same. Buy local.
Mostly Sex Stuff is a funny early stand-up show from Amy Schumer that fans will not want to miss, even if they have heard some of the jokes repeated. The DVD is of decent quality in sound and vision terms.
The extras are fun if a little raw in content.
