Gloria Estefan-Everlasting Gloria! is a compilation of seventeen Gloria Estefan songs. It is worth noting that all songs bar one are presented as full music videos. The Megamix is the exception to this, interspersing live concert footage with music video footage.
The disc opens with a very good intro sequence which features various video clips from the disc, set to Everlasting Love. Gloria Estefan then briefly talks about what music has meant to her, before jumping into the first music video, Live For Loving You.
At the end of chapters 3, 5, 8, 10, 12, 14, 15, 16 and 18, Gloria Estefan talks about the next song on the disc. These narratives are usually around 30 seconds in duration.
I really enjoyed watching this disc and feel it has much to offer any Gloria Estefan fan.
1. Live For Loving You 2. Always Tomorrow 3. Go Away 4. I See Your Smile 5. Mi Tierra 6. Con Los Anos Que Me Quedan 7. Mi Buen Amor 8. Turn The Beat Around 9. It's Too Late | 10. Everlasting Love 11. Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me 12. This Christmas 13. Silent Night 14. Abriendo Puertas 15. Megamix 16. Turn The Beat Around (12") 17. Everlasting Love (12" Mix) |
The overall video transfer is superb, with only minor problems affecting different video clips. We must remember that some of these video clips were shot for promotional use on television.
The transfer is presented at an aspect ratio of 1.33:1 (4x3).
The picture is extremely clear and sharp at all times. There is no low-level noise present, the colour is perfect and there are no film artefacts to be seen.
A few of the video clips suffer from the 3:2 pull-down effect (judder), which is an unfortunate but necessary evil of the film to NTSC video conversion process.
There is some aliasing present in the interview scenes with Gloria Estefan, where she talks about various aspects of the next song.
This is an RSDL disc, with the layer change occurring between Chapters 7 and 8, at 29:50. I did not even notice the layer change, thus I must say that the layer change is perfectly placed.
As the video source changes from video clip to video clip, so to does the quality and the problems (if any) associated with that particular clip. Any problems noticed with each clip are detailed later, in the Video Clip Quality section. In the absence of a comment on any particular aspect of the picture you can assume that it is of very good to excellent quality. I have also mentioned any stand-out or positive aspects of the picture quality on some video clips.

There are two English audio tracks on this DVD; English Linear PCM 48/16 2.0 1536Kb/s, and English Dolby Digital 5.1 448Kb/s. I listened to the English Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack.
The dialogue was extremely clear and easy to understand throughout the entire disc.
No audio sync problems were noticed with this transfer. There are many times where Gloria is not actually singing the words and thus the sound does not match the picture, but this not a transfer problem.
The surround channel usage varies from good to excellent. A lot of the songs use the surround channels aggressively for ambience and music, and they even contain Gloria's voice on several occasions.
The .1 LFE channel usage varies from extremely good to excellent. Many songs have superb deep bass, which adds a real punch to the sound.
Special Note: The audio menu refers to the second soundtrack as Dolby Stereo, when it is actually a Linear PCM 48/16 2.0 1536Kb/s soundtrack.
Since the sound quality is so good on this disc you will only find comments in the Video Clip Quality section on the Surround and .1 LFE channel use. In the absence of a comment on any particular aspect of the audio you can assume it is of excellent quality. I have also mentioned stand-out or positive aspects of the audio track.

NOTE: To view non-R4 releases, your equipment needs to be multi-zone compatible and usually also NTSC compatible.
The overall video transfer is superb, with only minor problems affecting different video clips. We must remember that some of these video clips were shot for promotional use on television.
The audio transfer is excellent. The only thing that strays from perfect is the surround and .1 LFE channel usage on a couple of songs. Again, we must remember that some of these video clips were shot for promotional use on television.
There are only limited, but nicely presented, extras.
