This disc contains a collection of four video clips and two short making-of segments for hip hop artist Missy Elliott.
Many of you may be familiar with Missy Elliott's work, as her current single 'Get Ur Freak On' has received fairly extensive airplay on many commercial radio stations and she is featured in the Tomb Raider soundtrack.
There is not really too much I have to say about this disc - if you are a fan of Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott you should enjoy the disc's content, but the short running time and lack of significant extras may make you think twice about owning it. It should also be noted that the videos included are the MTV edits with any possibly offensive language edited out.
1. Get Ur Freak On 2. The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly) | 3. She's a B**** 4. Hit Em Wit' Da Hee |
For no obvious reason, this disc includes two copies of all videos. If the viewer selects 'Play Program' from the menu they are presented with all videos separated into chapters within a single title. If the viewer selects 'Video Selections' they may choose an individual music video that has been authored as a separate title and has no timing information included.
All videos on this disc are presented Full Frame in NTSC at an aspect ratio of 1.33:1. The disc is, of course, not 16x9 enhanced.
Each of the video clips is very sharp and has excellent shadow detail visible. A small amount of low level noise may be seen during the opening section of the fourth video clip at 12:26. At no other stage of the transfer was any further low level noise detected.
The colours displayed in this transfer are extremely vibrant throughout and are accurately reproduced.
At no stage were any MPEG artefacts visible during the transfer.
A small number of aliasing artefacts are visible during the first video. Examples of these artefacts may be seen at 0:23, 0:27 and 1:06, but their short duration means that they are not distracting to the viewer.
A single small film artefact may be seen at 4:40 but it is not distracting to the viewer. No other film artefacts were detected and no obvious film grain was present during the transfer.
A small amount of dot crawl may be seen during the second video clip. Examples of this may be seen at 4:17, 4:24 and 5:24 along the edges of the extremely vibrant coloured stage and costumes displayed.
A single set of English subtitles is provided for the lyrics of all songs on this disc. This is a welcome addition and should be included on all music video presentations.

Unfortunately, a PCM track is not included. This would have provided a much higher quality 2.0 track than the supplied Dolby Digital mix. The 2.0 mix sounds rather flat and does not have the expected dynamic range.
The lyrics are clear and easy to understand at all times.
As these are music video clips where the video is recorded separately from the audio, there are some obvious small problems with audio sync. This is to be expected and is not distracting at any time. At no stage were any audio dropouts detected in the transfer.
The 5.1 mix makes extensive use of the surround channels. This mix is generally quite good with nice separation between all the channels and an enveloping soundstage, but the first video does sound slightly hollow with obvious echo and delay added.
The subwoofer channel is used throughout the transfer but receives an intense workout during the third video clip.

This is presented in an aspect ratio of 1.33:1 with some interview segments letterboxed and it has a Dolby Digital 2.0 soundtrack. Despite its shorter running time, this featurette contains significantly more information regarding the production of the clip and is more interesting than the longer running first featurette.
NOTE: To view non-R4 releases, your equipment needs to be multi-zone compatible and usually also NTSC compatible.
Both versions of this film appear to be identical and I therefore would have no preference for either version.
Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott-Hits of Miss E …The Videos-Volume 1 is a disc that should appeal to fans of her music, but the short running time may disappoint some viewers.
The video presented on this disc is of very high quality but the duplication of these videos on the disc is unusual.
The 5.1 audio mix on this disc is adequate but the inclusion of a PCM track would have been greatly appreciated.
The minimal extras provided on this disc would have been improved upon with the inclusion of a biography and discography.
