Freddy Got Fingered is one of those films that you will either find mildly amusing or will hate, but we'll get back to my thoughts on the movie a little later. First, I will try and give you a brief description of what this film is about.
Tom Green, who seems to be the brains trust behind Freddy Got Fingered, used to be a small-time comedian in Canada. He had a cable show named The Tom Green Show which gathered a bit of a cult following. The show was then picked up by MTV and Tom was well-and-truly on his way to the big time. Tom has been in some support roles as of late, including parts in Charlie's Angels and Road Trip but Freddy Got Fingered is his first leading role in a movie and could possibly be his last.
Freddy Got Fingered tells the story of Gordie Broby (Tom Green) who is a struggling cartoonist. Gordie leaves home for the big smoke in order to pursue his dream of being a big time cartoonist in Hollywood, but in the meantime takes a job in a cheese factory while waiting for his big break to come. The rest of the film revolves around Gordie going back home and continually fighting with his father, Jim (Rip Torn) about what a loser he has become. The movie seems to be an excuse for Green to take movie-making to an all-time low. Without spoiling any of the plot, one of the all-time low gags sees Gordie cutting a baby's umbilical cord with his teeth and then spinning the baby around his head with the broken cord. We also see Gordie masturbate an elephant over his father, and indeed some of the sketches are so crude that it would be impossible to describe them in words without offending people.
The video quality of this transfer is very good.
The transfer is presented in an aspect ratio of 1.85:1 and is 16x9 enhanced.
The transfer is clean and relatively sharp throughout the movie. There are a couple of instances where the picture looks a little soft but the picture generally looks good throughout. Shadow detail was excellent although most of the film was shot in fairly bright locations. Low level noise was limited to only the slightest levels detected in a couple of scenes. Overall, the transfer is very good and is sure to please.
The colours were spot-on throughout the movie and could not be faulted.
There were no MPEG artefacts seen. Film artefacts were not a problem at all. When they did very rarely appear, they did not distract.
This disc is single sided and single layered and therefore there is no layer change.

The audio transfer on this disc is quite good but does not compete with the best audio transfers around today.
There was only one audio track on this movie being an English Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack.
The dialogue was very clear and easy to understand. This is mainly a dialogue-driven movie, so you would expect it to be quite good and it was. Audio sync was not a problem with this movie and was spot on.
There was very little in the way of a musical score to accompany this movie, which was somewhat disappointing.
The surround channels were used mainly for ambience and the occasional loud sound effect. Only the odd directional effect was apparent, which I felt was fairly disappointing.
The subwoofer was used very little throughout the movie but on the few occasions it was used the bass was extremely deep and powerful. Again, due to the nature of this soundtrack it was not called upon too often.

Since this is a rental-only version of this DVD there were no extras except for a bunch of coming to DVD and video trailers which are of very poor quality. At least you are able to skip through these...
NOTE: To view non-R4 releases, your equipment needs to be multi-zone compatible and usually also NTSC compatible.
The Region 4 version misses out on;
The Region 1 version misses out on;
The Region 1 version looks the goods at the moment but we will probably receive all or most of the above when the movie is released to sell through. If you can't wait, then order the Region 1 version.
I really could not recommend Freddie Got Fingered to anyone. Putting it simply, it was not funny, it was just gross and makes There's Something About Mary look like Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs. It would have to go down as one of the worst films I have ever watched. Not recommended to anyone unless you like way-below-the-belt gutter trash comedy.
